I would go to the ends of the earth for Deborah Lippmann Across the Universe nail polish!

The nail polish I'm posting about today is one that I had to have from the first moment I saw a swatch of it on a blog somewhere. It's called Across the Universe by Deborah Lippmann and I have to say that it is probably my absolute favourite nail colour that I own. It's a glitter nail polish but it's definitely what I would classify grown up glitter or sophisticated glitter (perhaps that's an oxy moron but I stand by it!). It's this gorgeous navy jelly base that contains a mixture of small and hexagonal glitter in silver, green and blue.

I have seriously been lemming after this polish for months but I only just purchased it recently and it arrived last week. As soon as I saw the little package sitting on my bed and ripped it open and saw the pretty bottle sitting there of course I had to put it on straight away! It was about 11:30pm when I tried it on and lighting wasn't crash hot so when I put it on this is what it looked like. The colour looked almost black with some green and blue peeking through.

It was ok but I couldn't help but think that maybe I'd fallen victim to beautiful swatches that just weren't true to life. I decided I better sleep on it and see how things looked in the morning and I'm glad I did because daylight is when this polish really shines! I've taken pictures in various lighting so you can get an idea of the way this polish looks. You should really click each of the pictures to view them better and to get a closer look at the polishes.

This polish is really complex in the sense that it has so many different colours and variations of green and blue in it that the look changes depending on the light hitting it. I tried really hard to capture a particular gorgeous teal colour that it shines when the sunlight hits it but I couldn't get it. The colour varies from a dark navy to the bright teal that I talked about and all these different shades in between. It just reminded me off the colours of a world globe with the land and sea but on my fingers!

Deborah Lippmann is a Hollywood manicurist for those who don't know and while she has alot of standard polishes she specialises in these gorgeous glitter shades. I was a bit naughty and bought 8 of these types of glitter polishes from her brand and will be reviewing them all seperately but they are all great quality. Unlike a lot of nail brands, her polishes are all formeldayde, toulene and DBP free which is great because these toxins have a lot of harmful side effects.

I could definitely smell the difference when I used these polishes because they just smelled alot gentler and were without that really strong scent that alot of polishes I own have. The polish applies really smoothly but you need about three coats to get good opacity since the base colour is sheer. The glitter goes on well but you have to use as few strokes as possible when applying so you don't disturb the glitter. I also found that some of the glitter would hang over the edge of my nails but if you just gently push it back then it's fine. I got about 4 days wear without chipping but I didn't use a base coat or top coat so that probably explains why.

If you couldn't tell, I love this shade and I think it would look gorgeous on a variety of skin tones. These polishes aren't sold in Australia and I purchased mine online from http://www.kissandmakeupny.com/ who ship internationally for a flat rate of $9.95. These polishes ran me $18US a bottle and while that may seem like alot, let me just point out that OPI polishes are sold for $22 AUD in Australia and those polishes aren't nearly as pretty as the Deborah Lippmann polishes! If you're a polish fanatic like me and you're willing to spend the money then you honestly can't go wrong with this colour!
