Brown Girl Staples: Mac Woodwinked eyeshadow

I decided to start a series of posts called 'Brown Girl Staples' which talk about items which I think flatter a variety of brown skin tones. I don't want it to seem like I'm excluding people of other skin tones but as a brown girl, products that flatter brown skin is what I know. Don't be put off if you aren't brown though because the products I feature will usually be ones that will look great regardless of your skin tone.

The first item I had to post about is MAC Woodwinked eyeshadow. I was going to feature Woodwinked eyeshadow and MAC Indianwood paint pot but since Indianwood paint pot is Woodwinked in cream form, I haven't bothered to. I've included swatches of both though. Anyway, the reason I love this eyeshadow is because it looks amazing on brown skin and I swear there isn't a shade from light brown to dark brown that I haven't seen this colour work on.

Woodwinked eyeshadow is so pigmented and smooth and is this gorgeous honey gold shade which just warms your eye up and makes it look bright and radiant. The eyeshadow colour flashes from a warm bronze to a gold depending on the light. This is one of those eyeshadows that has so much depth to it that when you wear it on its own as a wash over your lid it looks like you've gone to more effort than you have and have used more than one colour.

Whenever I recommend an eyeshadow to my friends, this is the shade I tell them to get. I usually layer this over Indianwood paint pot and put on some liquid liner and mascara and I'm good to go. I will sometimes blend a darker brown into the outer v but most of the time I'll just use a shadow close to my skin colour to blend out the crease and then put a slightly lighter gold on my inner tear duct as a highlight.

I know you've heard about lip products that are 'my lips but better' but honestly Woodwinked eyeshadow is what I classify as 'my lids but better'! If I could only use one shadow for the rest of my life, this would be it and that's a big statement for me to make. I know I've talked this shadow up alot but you have to try it for yourself and see it in person because I don't think pictures do it justice.

  1. I haven't tried either of these, but I just recently bought Satin Taupe and I couldn't figure out how I've managed to live without it for so long!

  2. I bought Satin Taupe because everyone always rates it as their top eyeshadow pick but it just doesn't work for me! I was disappointed because It pulls purple rather than taupe on my skin. I really wanted to like it though. How do you usually wear it? All over the lid or just in the crease?

  3. Well, I've been wearing it for more of a daytime kind of look, with ST on my lid and Carbon on my outer corner. I haven't worn it at night yet, but it's become my day time staple! I had a play around with it and it also looks very pretty on top of a darker base.

  4. I tried it over a dark base and it definitely looks pretty! I posted the look that I tried up. Thanks for the inspiration!
