My go-to eye look

I had a wedding to go to yesterday and because I was planning on wearing a black dress I figured it gave me the freedom to wear makeup that was a bit more dramatic or bolder than what I usually go for. I was looking around for inspiration and I was planning on either going for a smokey eye look or a very neutral eye with a bold, red lip. In the end I was running so late that I was just trying to get out the door as quick as I could. What I ended up doing was my eye look that I use whenever I just don't have time to do anything different or I just can't be bothered experimenting. This look involves a cream shadow base, gold shadow, a lighter highlighter eye shadow, black eyeliner and mascara.

Here's a version of the look I wore today:

First I put some of MAC's paint pot in Rubenesque on my lid. I then patted some of the MAC New Vegas Mineralize Skinfinish from the McQueen Collection on my lid. I then used a clean blending brush to blend out the harsh line above my crease. I then put some MAC Nylon eyeshadow around my tear duct. After this I drew a line using MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack on the outer half of my lid and then finished off by curling my lashes and putting on Max Factor's Lash Extension Effect mascara.

I have so many gold shadows and pigments and lots of highlighter shades so the exact products I uses varies each time I do this look but if I'm just going to work or uni I usually use a subtler gold shadow like the Sunset Gold shadow from Bobbi Brown on my lid and around my tear duct. If I'm going for a more dramatic look then I use something like MAC's Solar Bits in Scatterrays on my lid and use something like Nylon or Solar White around my tear duct.
This is my go-to look because it's so easy to do but still looks like I made an effort and because it goes with anything so try it out if you need a quick and easy look.

  1. Thanks! It's so basic but I guess simplicity is what makes for a good go-to look.
